Hello, Hola, Bonjour, Salve, Zdravstvuyte, Konnichiwa, Merhaba………
I’m Lucinda (aka Luci) and thanks for paying a visit to my blog! I thought I’d take a moment to tell you a bit about me, and how this blog came to be….
Until 2019 (at the *ahem* healthy age of 32), it became quite apparent that life wasn’t quite heading in the direction I thought it would. I (like many) made a naive assumption that I’d follow the traditional route of getting married, having children etc. whilst holding down a decent job with a good social circle of friends (the latter is accurate)….
Instead, the back end of 2018 was one almighty wake up call. It was New Years Eve, and I was sitting in an airport hotel near Luton, on my second G&T ready to disappear on an exceptionally short notice adventure to Tenerife on my own for a few days after a pretty hectic Christmas (I won’t bore you with the detail). Reality set in that until now, I’d pretty much disregarded a lot of what makes me truly happy, to pursue this stereotypical ideology that actually upon reflection, I wasn’t that fussed about (at least not right now).
It’s January 2019. I’m newly single, in a career that no longer gives me the fulfillment I need, with an ever growing bucket list of experiences and adventures I’ve yet to plan. Whilst sitting by a pool in Northern Tenerife reading ‘Toxic People‘, I decided that 2019 was going to be my year. I’m taking this year for me, and I’m going to put myself first for a change. Career wise, I’d dabbled in a few alternatives over the years but never really made the break. I did a qualification in Wine through the WSET in London, and started a Freelance Travel Writing Diploma through the LSJ. In my desperation to escape the day job, in early 2019, I did a 10 week business start up course through Escape the City which really kicked me into touch, and began working on my own venture Citytrekker (on hold for now, but very much alive) which married up my passion for travel with a potential career perfectly.
What came next was sheer luck…..
Due to restructuring, I was able to gracefully bow out of my 9-5, whilst financially giving myself the spring board to tick off some items on my bucket list. I frantically bought a flat in North London (knowing full well that getting a mortgage if going self employed would be nigh on impossible), and started planning!
I plan to use this blog to document my adventures, and capture the year I’m dedicating to myself, hence the title ‘Finding Freedom’. I hope you enjoy it, and hope it gives you some inspiration to tackle, or at least plan to tackle some of your bucket list items.
Check out my 2019 page, which outlines whats in store and feel free to leave a comment if you enjoy my posts as the year progresses!
Much Love
Luce xxx
